Welcome to a small website produced for Sudley Junior school.

Currently in Sudley Junior School we have got a bird box in our grounds, there are residents in there at the moment; two little 'blue tits', which have so far laid 7 eggs.

We are keeping a very close eye on the box, as we have a small camera inside, on this website you will be able to see a few images and videos that we have captured during the birds stay in our box.

Mrs Blue at the moment is incubating her eggs, this means that she is sitting on them to keep them warm, although she won't break or squash them.

It will take roughly 12 days from the start of incubation (6th-7th May) before the eggs will hatch, so they will hopefully be hatching on 18th or 19th May.

  19th May 2008

The eggs started hatching at roughly 5am this morning and there was just one egg left to hatch at 9am.  All the baby birds appear to be fine and well!!  They are screaming loudly for their mum and dad to come and feed them!

  20th May 2008

Today there was no longer any eggs left inside the nest, we are still unsure as to whether all 7 eggs have hatched or if Mrs Blue has removed the egg, that hadn't hatched with all the other eggs yesterday.

From watching the baby birds all day, we think that we can see 7 little baby blue tits inside the nest!!

The baby birds are now looking less pink, they are starting to grow more feathers and are slowly becoming larger.

  29th May 2008

It appears that we only have 4 baby birds left in the box, we are unsure as to what has happened to the other 3 baby birds.

  3rd June 2008

There are now 3 very large baby birds left, again we are unsure as to what has happened to the missing bird, but the 3 remaining birds are looking very healthy.

  9th June 2008

Over the weekend 2 of the 3 birds had flown away, leaving 1 little bird left in the box, but not for long! Soon after turning the camera on in the morning, the last little (well a lot bigger now) bird decided it was time to fly away.
